Been doing some pet-sitting since Friday! Haha. Eunice went on holiday, so I'm helping her look after her 2 girls, Ally and Abby! Why not the 2 boys, Echo and Nugget?! =( Haha

The girls are still very scared though. But I think they're starting to warm up to my very noisy household. At least Abby stopped hanging out on that wooden perch and moved around.

Prawns Pot

The prawns pot has fries underneath the prawns in soup. Very interesting way of eating. So far, of the 3 times I've been to this place (there're other outlets), I've only had the prawns and beef pot. Never did try the chicken one.

Beef Pot

The beef pot is like a stew sort, with very thick soup. The thing about this place that makes it special is that you can ask for a topup of the soup, and they have a fridge full of side dishes you can add into the pot to cook it like a steamboat. But the side dishes are very expensive given the quantity.

Hehe. I had so much fun talking to them. Time seemed to pass so fast when we're chatting about anything and everything.

Oh and I bought cat shampoo. Hahaha. Bath-time tomorrow for the kittehs!

Seafood Birthday Dinner + Chinatown Walkabout

Celebrated my birthday with Kar and Eueu by going for a seafood dinner! First time ordering tze char on our own. Crabs!!!

Salted egg crabs; Black pepper crabs; Cereal prawns; Sambal Kangkong

2 crabs a dish for the salted egg and black pepper crabs! They were different from the ones I usually eat, but very nice too!! Love eating the cereal in cereal prawns and the kangkong was very yummy. Total came up to less than $20/pax?

Headed to Bukit Merah Central to get some GongCha, but the ran out of pearls. The Red Plum tea thing I had was.... gross. Lol. Kar and I are aiming to try ALL the items on the menu. We were lamenting that we didn't exactly have a nightlife and there was nowhere to go at night/didn't know where to go when someone suggested Chinatown! Yay!

Drove to Chinatown and parked at Maxwell Food Centre. Only had to wait a little while before we got a lot! *happy*

There were quite a few stalls selling chopsticks (in thing this year?), and I think we got our for quite a good deal. $1/pair, buy 10pairs get 1pair free. After we went further, I saw some selling for $1.50/pair. Hahaha. #cheapo. I bought 8 pairs of chopsticks that had 陈(Chen/Tan) on them! Just in time for CNY steamboat.

We actually stood in front of this Uncle and watched him introduce some cream thing that can remove all stains!! I was so impressed when he used it to clean a mirror and it didn't fog up/leave water streaks anymore. Ahhhhh. Should've bought. Lol.

Lazy afternoons should be spent indoors, out from harmful UV rays. I still have this stupid uneven tan on my arms because I wear a tshirt out on most days. My shoulders are so white but the bottom half of my arms are so dark. Please shoot me.

Beef Chilli with Nachos

I liked this! Actually, I like kidney beans. When cooked till soft, they're very tasty! The chili wasn't too spicy, the cheese was just right, but the nachos was salty. Hahaha. I prefer them plain since the chili and cheese are salty already.

Ice cream for dogs! I think it's 4 pcs for $1.50? The pieces are pretty small though. But I'm sure they use good quality stuff. I was expecting more of the scoop-type more than ice-cubes type though. Haha. But Dozer loved it, so it doesn't matter.

I finally permed my hair! Courtesy of Sis. I didn't even realised my hair was so long until I took the before photo. And my hair only behaves when I'm about to go to the salon. =.= My fringe is NEVER like that. And my hair is rarely so straight/not-pom!! *angry*

Did a Japanese Perm according to Audrey. I like it, but not exactly love it. my right side looks straighter than my left. Maybe I should go back to get it fixed.

Huskies Outing!

Mel invited us along to a Huskies Outing she organised! A grand total of 11 huskies. MADNESS.
Huskies (my experience after meeting/observing so many of them over the years) are generally dominant. They require a very firm and stern owner. And they don't really mix well with other dogs because they're a little too overprotective and territorial.

So... not a good idea to have so many gathered, but all the owners are experienced. Huskies were well-controlled. Well... most of them were well-controlled. =P

Oh and there was this lady who was kicking up a fuss about dogs going into the water. FYI, dogs ARE ALLOWED into the sea. It is a PUBLIC PLACE. She threatened to call the police and was seen on the phone, but none came. I suppose they ignored her. If dogs are no longer allowed in the sea/parks. WHERE SHOULD DOGS GO?! ARE YOU MAD?! The number of places dogs CAN GO in Singapore is already SO LIMITED. Why are you being such a bitch? Overseas, dogs are even allowed in shopping centres and supermarkets. I would love to bring mine (when I have one) shopping with me, but as it is, we're in Singapore. Not happening anytime soon. I'm cherishing the limited number of restaurants dogs are allowed at (though more are popping up).

There was Dozer, Braven, Apollo, Sergeant, Choco, DomDom, Richie, DJ, Hugo, Sassy, BoyBoy. As for who's who... That's a good question.

Totally in love with Richie. Hahaha he looks like a total teddy bear! His paws are so much bigger and fluffier than the other huskies. His head is also a little broader, like a little mix of Malamute in him.

We then embarked on one of the toughest things to do. Take a group photo.

Trying to get everyone in place is a pain. We have to see which husky can get along with which then arrange accordingly. Then, it was to get all the huskies (and humans) to look at my general direction. =.= When taking pictures with your pets, humans should all just stare at the camera and smile. Not wave your hands trying to get your pet to look at the camera. When you do that and your pet looks at the camera, YOU look funny. Not kidding.

This is the best out of maybe 20 tries.

I had tons of fun that night. Hehe. Though tiring from all the crazy walking while carrying all our barang barang. Chatting with them always rocks!

We went to see him again! Haha this little boy is always so happy to see us. I guess we try to visit him at least once a week? More if possible.

The Kafe wasn't open today though (they're usually closed on Mondays, but today's a Wednesday). Dozer was sad.

This year, surprisingly, I wasn't at home for the countdown! Haha. Yesterday, we (foodie gang) all gathered at Long and Feng's place for steamboat!

Walk-a-Paw 2011

Gentle Paws held their first Walk-a-Paw event today! People who signed up brought his/her assigned dog (from Gentle Paws) and walked a 1.6km route to an end point at Lor Halus' Wetlands Park.

Instead of the usual dog walk where you bring your own dog, this event lets participants walk dogs from Gentle Paws. All proceeds from the event goes to the dogs (food/upkeep).

Overall, the event went quite smoothly. I just didn't like the fact that the participants (who paid to participate) were asked if they would like to buy this and buy that. I'd be quite pissed off if I were them, even though it's in the interest of the dogs. Heh. But that's just my opinion.

As long as both dogs and humans have fun, why not, right? Hmm.

Had a little gift exchange with the awesome bunch from Gentle Paws after the Walk-A-Paw event ended today. Haha we were such an eye-catching bunch in bright orange.

The event itself went very well! Thank God for the awesome weather. =D Will try to remember to blog about that soon.

Anyway we had to draw lots for the Secret Santa last weekend after the flea, and everyone had a budget of $20 (or more) to buy a gift for the recipient. Nerve-wrecking, to say the least.

Muffin

Christmas is coming! We're nearing the end of the year soon. Woke up a little too early today and decided to snap pictures of the girls in the tree as per last year. Here and here. I was still hoping to take a group photo of all 4 of them this year but Thumper's not around anymore, so it's never going to happen. Thierry wasn't cooperative and didn't even want to go near the tree while the girls were there, so it was just them.

We bought new lights this year! We finally have a 'theme' of some sort. Instead of throwing everything we've been collecting these 3 years, we bought new blue lights and silver tinsel and ornaments!

When I was done, my right wrist was aching and my left eye was blurry. This happens when you only use your right hand to hold the camera instead of both hands (because a toy was in my left hand) and squinting into the eyepiece with your right eye (left eye squeezed shut). Haha.

Snowball

It's actually quite tough trying to get their attention because they move very fast when excited. Doing this in broad daylight with the living room light all switched on + using a flash bouncer + turning on the Christmas tree lights didn't help much in terms of shutter speed. I should probably think about getting an external flash this time.

Next up, I should grab Thierry and make him do this tomorrow, with the girls locked away in my room so they won't distract him.

Grilled Gala Platter

Finally met up with Diane, Shan and Siti, together. Hahaha. Been such a long long time! I love how we can so easily catch up with each other even though we haven't met up for almost a year. If I remember correctly.

Diane bought a coupon for the Grilled Gala Platter at Manhattan's Fish Market and we met up at the J8 outlet. Love how J8 brings back memories for us 4. =D

The food was good as usual, just that service was REALLY SLOW. They have tons of staff but they seem to be busy all the time with no food served and whenever we raise our hand for help, they seem to be unable to see us. =.=

Was actually just randomly pressing my phone to check for messages when I noticed the time. Print-screened and tadah! 11.11pm on 11/11/11. So... What's the big hooha again? Just a time, just a date. Plus it looks forever alone-ish... So many 1s....

Macarons Attempt #2

Ermmm.... My macarons?

So... I've tried making macarons, again. Spur of the moment thing. BUT! It failed, again, for the second time. =(

As much as I did follow the recipe.......... I didn't exactly age the egg whites... So it might be that, or it could be that I didn't beat the egg whites enough? Or the oven was a little too hot? I set it at 150oC, but once I put the tray in, the temperature went up to 155oC, or slightly more. =.= There's something wrong with the oven. Or it might be the piping. I realised afterwards that I shouldn't pipe one circle, but instead pipe the macaron in one spot (ie don't move the tip).

The taste was good (it's rose macarons, afterall), but there were faults.

No legs (the bubbly edge around the macaron)
A little burnt (you can see a little brown near the bottom of each piece)
Air pockets under the shell (don't know what to do with this)
Cracked shell (oven too hot?)
Almond bits not fine enough (probably need to process it more. The one bought from store isn't fine enough)
Too sweet (what should I do about this? The whole thing's made of sugar and egg whites =.=)

Anyway, the above picture is my ideal macaron, and also my favorite from Canele! Passed by the other day and bought one to eat while walking. $2.50!!! It's so expensive but so so so good. Ahhh. As much as the one I made did taste similar, the texture still has much to be improved.

Hong Kong Day 4/4 (200911)

Langham Place

Last day in Hong Kong!
Checked out of the hotel in the morning, left our luggage at the hotel, then off we went!

Took the shuttle bus to Langham Place to look around and see what's the hype about H&M. Erm. We only bought some bracelets. Nothing caught our eye. Lol. And we actually walked up 6 storeys (the inside is circular/sloping) because of the horoscope thing. Hahaha But we managed to find all 3 of ours, so all's good.

Went on the hunt for KFC (it's so difficult to find any fastfood other than McDonald's in HongKong) because of some stupid advert we kept seeing on TV. Turns out, the mushroom rice kinda sucked. Actually, the rice sucked. The mushrooms were good.

Speaking of TV, we saw some Chinese period drama from Day 1, and kind of got hooked onto it and after we came back, searched for it and watched it! Like seriously, all 3 of us getting hooked onto a period drama? Quite impossible, but this is really good! Bu Bu Jing Xin. Go look for it and watch it if you can.

Okay back to HongKong. Went to Fa Yuen Street to look at sports stuff and stroll around on our last day! Had lunch at Genki Sushi!

I cannot express how much I love torched salmon! Absolutely love it. Went back to Langham place to take the shuttle bus back to the hotel to wait for the airport shuttle bus to come pick us up! We were early, so we went across the road to get some egg tarts! Okay maybe just Eu went to get egg tarts hahaha we just ate hers. =X

Collected our Lo Po Bing and egg rolls! Thinking back, I think we paid quite a bit more than the street price, but saved us the trouble of looking for the outlet (didn't see any throughout the 4 days). Maybe we'll buy them ourselves next time instead. And not buy so many.

Reached the airport, checked in, and found out our flight was delayed. Zzz. Delayed for nearly an hour (or was it more?).

Flight home

I loved this trip! Didn't actually buy much (budget constraints heh), but not a big deal. Hahaha I love Hong Kong! The only time we willingly walk this much is only when we're overseas. Plus, the weather's better (cooling) than Sg, so it's more pleasant to walk. =D

Travelling with my 2 bestest friends made it so so so much fun. Hurhurhur. Let's go again! =D

Monday was "Disneyland Day"!!! There're tons of photos in this post so..... go ahead and click!!!

Woke up bright and early for our pre-arranged bus ride to Disneyland! While waiting for the bus, we went across the road to the bakery to get some bread for breakfast.

Aaaaannnndddd, off we went! I don't really know what to write other than the fact that we had tons of fun, so more pictures, less words!

Hong Kong Disneyland's 5th Anniversary!

The weather was hot and humid, but the sky was grey. All the pictures that had the sky in it all looked kinda weird because it's like a white sheet. Very bright white sheet.

Hong Kong Disneyland has the Sleeping Beauty castle, while Tokyo Disneyland has the Cinderella castle.

ONE THING I have to mention is that..... both times I've been to Disneyland, I'VE NEVER GONE INSIDE THE CASTLE!!! *sad* I seriously don't know that the castle is open (or has an attraction inside). What the....?! Only saw it on wiki while blogging. T_____T I remember we walked through the castle (some pathway that goes through the castle), but did not see any doors or queues or anything! WHAT IS THISSSSSS......!!!!???

This is a MUST WATCH on a hot day! Hahaha. It's airconditioned inside, which was a huge relief from the heat outside after taking so many jumpshots. PLUS! It was realllyyyyy goooodd!! It's a 4D film and the 3D effects with the glasses were SO MUCH BETTER than any 3D movies out there at the moment. Loved every moment of it because it was filled with Disney music!

We went to queue up to take photos with the mascots next! There was an area with pavilions and a mascot in each pavilion to take pictures with.

Took group shots with Pluto and Goofy only then we realised that there were others in groups that did the individual shots then group shot. Hahaha Kiasu Singaporeans we are, we followed suit for the next 3. Why not, right? There weren't many people in the queue anyway.

But right when we were queuing for a photo with Pooh, the mascots took a break (presumably to change shifts) and made a show of walking off. Mickey and Minnie meeting along the path, hugging and all.

Can't remember exactly what we ate, just that the noodles were really good! Some theme parks have really lousy food, but not in Disneyland! Just that it's a little pricier, but if it's good, I don't mind paying a little more. =)

Sleeping Beauty and Prince Charming!

Is it me or is the name of all the Princes... Prince Charming? Okay maybe in Little Mermaid, the guy is called Eric. But most of the fairytales do not have names for the male 'leads'. Haha Maybe because the ladies are the main attraction of the story? =S

Snow White and the 7 Dwarves

An interesting thing I found out while researching the Prince Charming thing (one click led to another, I ended up reading about the different Disneylands and the inside of each castle), was that Snow White in the picture above was made the same height as the dwarves, so she's placed higher to create the illusion that she's taller? Cool stuff.

AND WE DIDN'T ENTER THE CASTLE!! WHAT IS THIS!!?! I clearly remember walking through the castle but it didn't have anything to see at all. But Wikipedia says there's an attraction inside!? And one in the Cinderella castle in Japan's Disneyland too (didn't go into that one too)!! =(

Stitch Encounter

This was fun! Actually we just sat in a room with tons of other people, then Stitch appeared on the screen and pointed people out, asking them stuff. It was pretty funny and there were actually pictures of some of the people on screen. Haha I think they had like cameras everywhere or something. Plus, it was a relief to get out of the sun for a little while again. =D

We took the MTR to and back again. Tons of people were leaving. But at 5ish, there weren't many going towards Disneyland, so we got to take self-timed shots in the train itself. =D

Attempted taking jumpshots again because we still had time. Fireworks start at 7.30pm. Oh and my DSLR ran out of juice. =( Which I thought so, but it was just that my memory card was full. Dammit. I could've used it for fireworks pictures =( GAHHHH!

The worst thing happened just then. IT STARTED POURING! Not raining, POURING! =( We ran for shelter at the above place, a train station inside Disneyland. Stood outside the 'station' under a random umbrella (those you see at outdoor picnic tables) to wait out the rain. Was really worried the fireworks would be cancelled (rain + weekday) because I didn't get to see the one in Japan the other time too. >.< But the staffs told us the fireworks will go on as usual (we asked every one we ran into). So we waited. 3 of us under one small wobbly umbrella. Hahahaha. We stood there for more than an hour. But we had the best view of the castle because the train station was elevated and had a direct view of the castle!

We were setting up (trying to plan how to take pictures of the fireworks if the rain continued and we had to stand under the umbrella when we saw fireworks! Took it by chance because it was only like 10secs long. Think it was some 'test/trial' before they started the actual one.

The castle!

When the castle's lights dimmed, we knew it was time!! Haha the rain actually stopped and we moved towards the danister in front of us and I attached the gorillapod to the banister with Eu's digicam while using my iphone for pictures. LOL the 3 of us were a sight. Kar taking photos with her m4/3 and video on her digicam, Eu taking video on her iphone, me taking photos on Eu's digicam and photos on my iphone. We're the epitome of kiasu. =X But hey! It was all worth it man! I'm still pissed with myself about failing to notice it was my memory card that was full, not battery drained. ARGHHHH!! =(

Love the one in the top right! It was the start of the fireworks, and the music was "When you wish upon a star", and they look like shooting stars! Heart skipped a beat.

The fireworks were so so so awesome! We were in awe even after the thing has ended and were rewatching the videos again and again while making our way back to the hotel. Haha we're truly Disney-kids.

Took the train back to Olympic! Bought some really cheap phone covers near the station (even cheaper than Ladies' Market/Temple Street). Hurhurhur. Oh and saw a guy with like 6 dogs of different sizes! All were offleash-ed but very very well-behaved! Very attached to the owner and very well-maintained! Ranging from Labrador Retrievers to Shih Tzus? Very impressed when the dogs could do a ton of tricks. You definitely can't find this in Sg. Damn. Forgot to take a photo.

We were all knackered by then. Wanted to just lie down and sleep, anywhere. Hahaha. In our excitement over the fireworks, we totally forgot about dinner. =/ While walking back to the hotel, we found a place to have dinner/supper at (I think it was 9pm already).

Hong Kong Day 2/4 (180911)

And so after a crazy Day 1, we embarked on Day 2! Love the signs in the MTR (did I say that already?).
Woke up at about 9am and started watching this TV show we watched a little the previous night after we got back. Chinese period drama, 步步惊心. It's really good! We (yes, even Eunice) finished all 35 episodes after we got back. Haha. It's really highly addictive. Even managed to get some friends to start watching. =D

Front of the hotel!

The plan for the day was to meet Kar's friend, eat dim sum, then go around Causeway Bay to a dog or cat cafe, then go up The Peak? And maybe the night market if we have the time.

Woke up at about 8.30-9am and ordered room service!!! First time we ever had room service anywhere LOL. Because it's always so expensive. We ordered only one set because we just needed to line our stomachs till we met Kar's friend for dimsum at about 11.30am.

Oh and we totally didn't want to wake up. Legs were majorly aching!!!

Plus, the set was really huge. I LOVE THE CROISSANTS!!! Definitely more than enough for 2 persons, just nice for us 3. Hahaha. Who eats 3 croissants in the morning?! AND WE ATE IN BED! Lol. Due to the fact that we don't have a table in the room...... Haha. Awesome.

And thus we head out!

I wonder how that works in HK. I mean, if that's in SG, I'm VERY sure it won't work. And wouldn't you need tons of these along a stretch of road? The roadside parking in HK is very interesting though.

Met up with Kar's friend, Nakayo, and walked to the restaurant! I don't think I've ever walked so much in SG. Only when I'm overseas. That time in Japan, we walked tons too. It just isn't as interesting to walk in SG as compared to overseas.

Don't worry, we didn't eat any shark's fins. The whole aim was dim sum. =D CAN I SAY THAT I LOVED EVERY ITEM WE ORDERED?!?!

The chang fen in XO sauce was very very tasty. Each roll was soft and moist! Not too dry, not soggy. Major loveeeee.
And the BBQ PORK!!! I'm drooling now. I want to go back to Hong Kong NOW!!! Totally melts in your mouth kind of experience. I love this kind, not the gross artificially coloured kind they sell in SG.
The roast pork was so awesommeeee. The top was so crispy and the meat so soft. *drools*

Custard bun!!!; inside the bun!!; Siew Mai; Har Gow

Ooooo I got to eat my custard bun!!! The filling was SO GOOD. The custard filling with salted egg yolk taste.. WAHHH *heaven* The Siew Mai was gooooood, but the green pea.. Hahaha. AND THE HAR GOW!!! The shrimp inside was so huge and succulent. I love dimsum hahaha. And that hargow picture is short of one because it was eateeeennn. Everything was just too good!

Beancurd skin wrapping something; steam cake; Char Siew Bao; Egg tarts

I don't really know the names for the top 2 items, but they were so yummy! The steam cake was not too sweet, but Kar said otherwise. Haha. Very interesting Char Siew Bao; deep fried instead of steamed. Very yummy fillings! And the egg tarts! Very small, but perfect to fit into your mouth!

Mango Pudding; Mango Sago Pomelo; Longan with Tang Yuan; Red Bean soup

Ordered the mango pudding, but the other 3 (bottom picture) was complimentary (there were 4 bowls of complimentary dessert, didn't take a picture of the extra mango sago pomelo)! Interesting to know that there was complimentary dessert! The mango pudding was the kind I love too! Very thick, very milky. Nice. The other desserts were good too! =D I'm a desserts girl.

So after the extremely filling meal (not to mention we ate earlier. Omg weight gain!), we walked from Wan Chai to Causeway Bay....

Dogside Cafe

We actually looked for this Dogside Cafe, went up and came down. Lol. Kar's friend didn't really fancy dogs and actually said she would wait for us while we were upstairs in the cafe. Took a quick look and came back down without staying, because it's mostly for dog owners and didn't want her friend to be waiting for us.

Next up, finally reaching Causeway Bay.

The funny thing about the slippers was that..... By the end of the day, the flower prints actually came off from all the walking and I had eroded my foot print on the slipper base. =.= #win

After walking around Times Square for abit, we decided to explore the area and tried to search for the cat cafe, Ah Meow Cafe. Got sidetracked and went to Muji and Uniqlo, and actually spotted the cafe opposite!!! Hahaha. Actually thought it would be difficult to find... Anyway......

Took an old school lift!!!

Had to open our own lift door!! Haha cool. #easilyfascinated. Saw a sign to a pet shop at the same level as the cat cafe and went there first. They sold cats, but the main point was the cats looked HAPPY. They were all housed together in this glass enclosed area with toys, scratching post, hideouts etc etc. Most of them were together! A few different breeds and they all looked so happy!!! Why aren't Sg's pet shops like that too??? Too bad no photos allowed... Oh and they had a Persian walking around the shop!! Best thing ever.

So many kittehs!!!! *major love* I was kind of going crazy in the cafe. It was crowded though. Would be so much better if we had the time to go on a weekday. Haha. Thanks Eueu and Kar for going there with me. =D Why don't we have these in sg?!

And so......... since we were at Causeway Bay, we went to find our way to The Peak Tram!!! *walk walk walk* Crazy uphill walk. Lol.

We weren't really interested in going into Madam Tussaud's since we were not really big fans of... anyone inside. Hahaha. So we had fun with the Bruce Lee figure outside (for people to take photos with). Queued up a couple of times and came up with weird poses. AHAHHAHA. EVERYONE WAS STARING.

Eunice's the biggest perv LOLOLOL. Took the tram down again (massive crowd), and we took a bus!! To Wan Chai MTR. Lol. Was totally afraid we were going to get lost. Hahahaha.

Ice Cream Van; Temple Street; Jordan to Yau Ma Tei

Uh.... Actually, Temple Street doesn't really have much to buy. If you want cheap tripods or gorrilapods maybe. Haha. Went through a whole street of fortune tellers, another of old people doing karaoke in public and people selling the same things at all the stalls.

Reached Yau Ma Tei (approx. 1km if you walk straight from Jordan along Nathan Rd, but we went along Temple Street and took many turns), so we took one stop to Mong Kok. Also, we were trying to catch the shuttle bus back to the hotel.

The hotel has a free shuttle bus service, but the problem was, we didn't know the exact location it was going to drop off/pick up people at, just that it's along that street. And we had no idea what the bus looked like. So we were going to risk it, or walk from Mong Kok back to the hotel, which was another 1km+.

AND WE HAVE NOT HAD OUR DINNER YET!!!

Noodle Shop

It was kind of a mad rush where we went to some random shop to get some noodles, then while walking back, spotted a stall selling roast pigeons. Haha One of the aims was to try roast pigeon! So we ordered one, but it took reallllyyyy long to prepare. Bought 2 custard buns from a random dimsum stall along the road to try. Eueu and I went back to the street the bus was supposed to arrive at, and we each stood at one end of the street to wait. Lucky we managed to board the bus. LOL.

Roast pigeon tastes like... duck. Serious. And the noodles were okay, but the soup was MSG laden. =.= The custard buns were really.... custard. No sign of salted egg yolk at all =(

Kar went downstairs to get the message thing the hotel left us on the phone, and we did a porepack while waiting for her. My nose is gross. Lol.

Our journey begins!!!

First time the 3 of us traveled w/o a parent.

First time we took a plane together.

Our first time to Hong Kong!!

(Took me a month to get around blogging about it)
Anyway the pictures will mostly be in collages because there're just too many pictures.

My luggage

My family was asking me why I was bringing such a huge luggage for a 4 day trip.. Kar and Eueu's luggages were bigger. =.= Julius came along too!

My luggage was like a mini one next to theirs.

Spent the night before at Kar's place so we could go to the airport together in the morning. *rolls around* Ended up playing this new game Eu downloaded on the iPhone the whole night. DragonVale!! Addictive stuff. All 3 of us are still playing it after a month.

Headed for the airport in the cab then Kar realised she totally left behind her camera bag. #win Lucky she stays in Pasir Ris otherwise we'd probably make her abandon her bag. #justkidding

Haha this woman was carrying so many Crumpler things. =.= So we checked-in and walked around in the terminal looking for food. Flight was at 8am, we reached the airport around 6am? Or was it even earlier...

Free handphone charging booth!

The iPhone drains very very quickly. Lucky we found this handphone charging booth and left our phones inside. All 3 of them. Then we went to search for food. Ate some meesiam from Killiney's, but man it sucked really bad. Very oily and price is so not justifiable. #indignant

I don't know what it is but the croissants in Hong Kong are DIFFERENT. See that in the top left hand of the above picture? It's round-ish! So soft and nice!!!! Love it tons. And we all took the egg and sausage set. Totally regretted it because the egg was full of veggies and tasted weird. Love the long beans though. After sitting in the plane for like 4hours, WE LANDED!!! Super excited.

Had to meet our tour agency for the bus shuttle to our hotel. Interesting thing is that they have this meeting point with posts containing logos of the travel agents for meeting points. I think this is much easier than holding a sign and waiting at the exit of the arrival hall. Gathered with a group of people who were taking the shuttle bus and boarded the bus!! Wahahaha.

Dropped of the 1st group of people at Rambler Garden Hotel in Tsing Yi. We were supposed to stay there but we did an upgrade. Thank God we did an upgrade, because that place is in the middle of nowhere. Like, seriously.

Cosmo Hotel, Mongkok

I love the hotel! It's along Tai Kok Tsui Road. Kind of far from MongKok station itself, but still within walking distance. Nearest station is Olympic. The hotel is small but clean and homely. We booked a triple-sharing room so it was kind of cramped, but very bright and clean and cosy. The toilet was small but nice! Love the rain shower. Haha. Lookked into one of the rooms nearby (cos they were doing housekeeping) and saw that the extra bed was supposed to be empty space. Haha. Doesn't matter to us much as long as the beds were comfy and the room was not scary. Oh and free wifi at the lobby!

So... Guardian is called mannings in Hong Kong?

One of the first things we settled was buying a prepaid card. Preferably with 3G/internet access. Couldn't find any with unlimited internet access like the one in Malaysia, so we settled for this. And the sim card was pre-cut! So we didn't have to look for a mobile phone shop to do it for us. Bought this at a random 7-11.

Next up, finding our way to the MTR station. The hotel's concierge was very friendly and they have an awesome map for us to follow! Better than the one we brought from Singapore. =.=

Citygate Outlets

Went to Tung Chung to take a ride in the cable car, see the giant buddha and go for some shopping at Citygate. Time wasn't on our side because the queue for the cable car was crazy long. Probably because it was a Saturday, which explained the queue. =( We actually queued for more than an hour in the sun.

Boarded the cable car at approximately 5.30pm. Ride takes about 20-30mins? And the station closes at 6.30pm. #win. The return trip was packed like mad. Didn't have the chance to explore the area. Would very much love to explore the are next time!!! =(

In the cable car

Spotted this random person up a mountain/hill in the middle of nowhere.

It was about halfway through the ride? Way too far away from the base of the buddha and cable car terminal. Scary stuff. But I love this picture. Haha.

Pretty sunset!

At least we got to see a gorgeous sunset.

Took the cable car back to citygate, but didn't buy anything at the outlet stores because they were.... not very nice. Made our way to Mong Kok to see the night markets instead. Oh and we bought bread from the supermarket. Hotdog buns! We didn't eat anything from since the plane food (10am?) until about 7pm? Lol. It's quite amazing we didn't collapse.

The Ladies' Market was interesting but didn't buy much because 90% were selling imitation goods. I should've just bought one of those fake LeSportSac to use for chalets. Haha. But I didn't. So many knock-offs of Cath Kidston! They were all so prettttyyyy!!! But I resisted. =(

Shopping 'haul': Pants, shorts, portable iphone charger and Mong Kok magnet.

So after walking up and down Ladies' Market and a little of Fa Yuen Street, we kind of realised it was late and went to buy some takeaway to bring back to the hotel. Took us awhile with the map to figure out where we were and after some major walking, we reached the hotel!!! But not before stopping by Macs to get a Sausage McMuffin with Egg because I heard that they have it 24hrs there.

The Bubble tea was awesome, cheap and good in an extra large cup. The loklok from a random stall (we didn't even know what some of the things were) was so so good! Bacon wrapped golden mushrooms and some pork slices. The sausage mcmuffin failed. Too dry and bread was hard.

It was a long long day out walking. And we ate really little. Hahaha. Amazing.

Celebrated at the Bishan Park Dog Run today with the Friday gang! Haha. We've been meeting almost every Friday at the dog run for the past few months already (has it really been that long??!). So we had a mini-celebration with the doggies there! We even had mooncakes!

National Dog Walk 2011

After a crazy long day yesterday, we still managed to roll out of bed this morning and head down to East Coast Park for the National Dog Walk 2011!! It was me (NO DOG T_T), Eueu + Echo & Nugget and Long + Droopy.

Reached East Coast at about 2pm? The event started at 9am (agility and stuff), so we reached a little later since the walk itself was slated for flag off at 4pm.

GUESS WHAT?! There was a lucky draw for the event and all THREE of us won something!!! I won a Mont Blanc card holder, Eueu won a 1 (or was it 2?) night hotel stay in Malacca and Long won a set of crystal wine glasses! First time ever. How awesome was that?!!

The whole bunch of us (yes. 6 humans and 5 dogs) went down to The Garden Slug for dinner! Omg I love the Smoked Salmon Pasta. Had it like thrice already? I don't think I'll ever order anything else on the menu hahahaha.

Summer Festival 2011

Natsu Matsuri, also known as the Summer Festival, is a very popular festival in Japan. There's one held in Singapore every year around the end of August at The Japanese School's Changi Campus.

This year, other than Eueu, Kar and I, Cl came along too. We started queuing from about 2pm? We got pretty lucky because we were right in the shade of a tree. ^-^

This is Dillon. He might have a chance at a new home soon. =) Happy for him, definitely. Kind of sad, that too. I realised I have many many MANY pictures and videos of him. Since I can't be there to send him off this coming Saturday, I figured I should drop by today and give him a few big hugs and kisses, some treats, and an outing at the dog run.

I hope his new family brings him out often. He loves interacting with other dogs.

He was about 6 months old when the above picture was taken. I have to say that I really liked the picture. One thing I have to say is that I didn't really took a liking to him at first, because there were so many people fawning over him. I thought since he had so many fans, I should go find someone else to shower some affection upon. You probably read about Rocky some time last year.. But he got adopted already! So I was kind of open to someone else to shower all my favoritism on. Lol.

Our story has got to be... fate. Haha. I became his handler for the dog training program we went through by a dog trainer who very kindly came down every weekend to teach all of us humans and dogs.

I brought him to the doggy pool, just so I could teach him how to swim. He didn't like it at first, but he got the hang of it in the end.

I think I'm going to miss his silliness most. Making me laugh by running to fast and skidding. Quietly standing by and walking by my side... I hope the family loves him more than I do... Bring him for walks, to the dog run, for a swim, etc etc.

He is probably as close as "my own dog" as I'll get in these next few years... *pats head* Good luck, boy.

Watched this at nex (been going there quite often lately huh) with siblings and bf! I loved it! Chris Evans is like, HOW HOT?!?! Lol. *drools* I thought he looked quite familiar (I don't remember actors/shows they acted in) so I went to IMDB to check him out. Oh. So he was the guy in Push, and the Human Torch in Fantastic Four! Cool. The ending was so sad though. =(

Oh and please stay all the way till after the credits finish rolling!!! I can't wait for The Avengers to be released!!

My favorite ice cream on a stick! I've always liked Magnum Almond! And since they're so cheap, time to try the newer flavors! The Double Caramel is really interesting, with 2 chocolate shells and caramel inbetween the shells. Not bad, but quite sweet. The Magnum Gold has caramel inside the vanilla icecream and in the gold layer outside.

Finally met Gabby in the day. We always meet on Friday evenings at the dogrun for the furkids to play after work, but we could finally go in the day because Nana wanted to bring Gabby out before we went for steamboat with the rest.

Mango Cake

Mango Cake

Grandma's Birthday was yesterday. We always have mango cakes for all the birthdays in our family, so I though I might as well learn to bake one. Scoured the net for a recipe for Sg-style mango cake (like those Bengawan Solo/Prima Deli kind?). I managed to find one from My Wok Life. I've been trying since... Tuesday? Can't remember exactly, but I do remember baking a grand total of 4 cakes since that day. Only one is passable.

The reason why they failed was because they didn't rise. At all. Like, seriously. I was quite pissed off by the time I reached the 3rd cake, but I gave the 4th cake another try on Friday by reducing the amount of milk added, and it managed to rise a little! =D I shall give it a go again if I can take the failure. =.=

Took me awhile but I found out what was wrong with my cake and tweaked the recipe from My Wok Life to get my cake. Not perfect, but better than the previous 3.

Recipe (after some tweaking):

Ingredients for the cake:

200 grams of sponge cake premix (Optima Ready Mix from Bake King brand)

4 medium eggs

20ml milk

10 gram of butter (1 teaspoon sized)

1 teaspoon of mango flavour

1 teaspoon of sponge cake stabilizer

Filling/topping:

200ml of whipped cream

1 tablespoon of sugar

1 teaspoon of vanilla essence

2 ripe mangoes, diced (Half the amount for filling, half the amount fot topping. Dice it chunk for the topping.)

Method:

1) Mix cake premix flour, butter, milk mixture, and egg yolks into mixing bowl and mix well.

2) Use electrical mixer to beat egg whites till fluffy, forming soft peaks.

3) Fold egg whites into batter.

4) Pre-heat oven at 180°C.

5) Grease and line a sheet of grease-proof paper evenly on a 8” square or round baking pan. Pour in cake mixture.

4) Place baking pan at centre rack. Bake for 30 – 35 min using 180°C (top and bottom heat on), or until toothpick inserted in the centre comes out completely clean.

5) Allow cake to cool on wire rack, for about an hour.

6) When cake is completely cooled, slice it into 2 layers, using bread knife.

7) Filling: Whip ingredients for the filling together until stiff peaks form. Keep mixture cold to prevent whipped cream from melting.

8) For filling the cake: Use half the amount of whipped cream with half the amount of diced mangoes you have prepared, and combine it well. Spread a thick layer of filling evenly on the bottom layer of cake. Leave some space around the edge of the cake.

9) Top another layer of cake. Spread another half amount of whipped cream just on top or covering the whole cake. Next, place another half amount of the chunky diced mangoes on top evenly. Chill decorated cake in the refrigerator till ready to serve.

The cake was really nice (though I slathered on too much whipped cream). I should probably increase the amount of mango flavoring because the mango toppings overwhelmed the cake in taste, rendering the cake kind of tasteless.

=D Good try though! Maybe a mango mousse filling next time instead of whipped cream? =))

Kung Fu Panda 2

Finally managed to meetup with the girls to catch Kung Fu Panda 2 at Plaza Singapura. Actually not all the girls. Just Eunice, Kar, Siti and me. The movie was pretty good. I laughed quite consistently throughout the movie. Haha. There were some parts that were extremely funny (KAW KAW!), some parts were.. meh.

Overall, it was a pretty good watch! I think I'm just happy to go catch a movie. Hahaha. =D

I watched my 1st 'live' musical today! The Lion King is performing at the Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands! Sis brought Bro and I to watch it. Hurhurhur.

Sis bought tickets in Category B at $165 each. $168 with $3 booking fee. It's so expensive!! But but... it's totally worth it!

We were really near the stage.

If you're going, please buy tickets on the 1st floor, near the aisles! The show was supposed to end by the end of this month (May), but I heard that they've extended it till the end of July! Please go watch it!!

Cake-making Day!

WeiFeng and NaNa came over to bake a cake today! We arranged to bake one for the May babies' birthdays (and also an excuse to prove that NaNa can bake! LOL).

We baked the same chocolate cake I baked for his birthday, but didn't want to use the buttercream frosting (too sweet). Something that gave us space for decorating. And so... we did a simple whipped cream frosting and used colorful mini marshmallows to do up the sides.

Chocolate cake recipe is from I Am Baker for the Best Chocolate Cake! Indeed, it's the best I've tasted so far! =D Whipped Cream Frosting from Joy Of Baking!

I... haven't really written any lenghty and personal post in a long long while as you can probably see. Maybe I shall attempt it today. I've been posting pictures of food/friends/dogs/cats lately. I think it has become my habit to blog 'events' in my life that consists of pictures now.

Let's see...

This idiot girl Muffin injured her toe on her back left paw. I clearly remember checking all their paws the day before because I was planning to trim their nails and I swear it was perfectly alright. Within a night, it swelled and had an infection.

This was on the 28th April. And the vet called to postpone my appointment to Friday because there was an emergency surgery. Win. It got worse the next day. =.= Costs a bomb to visit the vet. Because of the infection, the vet couldn't tell if there was anything lodged in her toe or whether it was inflamed because of nothing.

Apparently, it's nothing because after 3 days of medicating this girl, she's perfectly alright now. =.= And she has been a bitch to medicate. Worse than Thierry.

I can't wait for this Sunday! The amazing thing is that the race has been brought forward! At first, we were worried we couldn't attend because of lab on Sunday. The timing didn't really favor us, but thank God that everything's alright now!!! <3<3

ANYWAY! I'll be voting for the FIRST TIME in my life TOMORROW in the General Elections in SG. You know what? I'm kind of excited. But I think the outcome for my GRC is pretty much obvious.

The major change for this year's election has got to be the fact that there are wayyyy more social media outlets available for people to gain information from, instead of biased sources of the norm. Plus, many from my generation are now eligible to vote. I suppose judging from the information I've been reading so far, 80% are unhappy about the current situation. Today's the Cooling-Off Day and tomorrow's Voting Day. Sad to say, I've not attended any rallies. =( I've been trying to keep up with news via some social media platforms, but it's not easy when it's like a flood. =.= I can't wait to know the results though! Vote wisely. =))

Hello Kitty iPhone4 cover

You know I usually don't buy imitation stuff, but this was too good to pass up. =X My reason is that this phone cover will not last long and it won't be affordable should it be authentic. An authentic Hello Kitty case goes for about $40 and above? Crazy. This cost me $8. With interchangable ribbons!! The main point is the ribbon anyway, not the face, so I couldn't be bothered. Haha.

Today is also an important day, for us. 5 YEARS SINCE OUR 1ST DATE! Omggggoooosssshhh! It's really been a long long time eh? Lol. Milestone milestone!!

Had dinner with his family at Crystal Jade Korean BBQ at nex. Went to his place to cut the cake with everyone, then we went to Punggol Park to join some friends of his.

I loved the spaghetti and egg omelette!! Insansely good.

Tiramisu, Mango Pudding, Chocolate parfait(?) and Custard pudding.

I... didn't like the custard pudding. The rest were not too bad.

Overall, I find it not bad, but not exactly value for money. And they didn't have creme brulee! =( I don't think I'd be back anything soon though.... Haha.
